School - Great Peoples of the Past Series
Two great forces, the Nile River and the surrounding desert, shaped one of the world's most enduring civilizations, lasting more than 3,000 years. The river brought annual floods which deposited a layer of rich soil for cultivation of crops, and the desert acted as a barrier to invaders. The dry desert has also protected artifacts, which has enabled our learning about this great civilization. The map-side contains a map of the Nile valley from the Mediterranean to the Nubian Desert, on which is noted historical information. There is also a listing of the kings and dynasties, pictures, and a discussion of the various major periods in Egyptian history: CA 4500-3100 BC Early
Egypt
; 2575-2150 BC Old Kingdom; 1975-1640 BC Middle Kingdom; and 1539-1075 BC New Kingdom. The reverse-side contacts an illustration of the Temple of Karnak, as well as more information of the various historic periods, including the later ones.
